THE SYMPOSIUM

Public, commercial and global research interest in the delivery of ‘zero carbon’ buildings has never been higher and the adverse energy and environmental impact of conventional airconditioning has clearly been demonstrated.

Passive and Hybrid Downdraught Cooling, in different forms, is now technically viable in many parts of the world. This has been established through a combination of research projects supported by the European Commission and built examples around the world.

The PHDC project is a promotion and dissemination activity supported by the EC aimed at increasing the acceptance of these technologies among clients and professionals. The project includes a series of symposia in Europe, China and India; the creation of a Design Sourcebook; a Simplified Performance Assessment Tool for the design of PHDC systems.

Research in this area, which has been supported by the European Commission, includes the current research project on ‘Passive Hybrid Downdraught Cooling’ in non-domestic buildings (PHDC).

The Bologna symposium is the fifth event held in a series of world wide symposia which discuss the nature of passive and hybrid downdraught cooling systems in buildings. The series of conferences have previously been held in Spain, China, Malta and Greece and will take place in India and the United Kingdom in the coming months. The Bologna symposium will take place on the 29th and 30th of October 2009.

By attending the International Symposium one will be able to gain added and significant insight into the recent developments and applications of the system around the world as a passive alternative to mechanical cooling.

REGISTRATION

Registration is free and includes lunch on the first day of the symposium. Registration also includes a delegate’s pack with free software that will be demonstrated on day two.

Participants are requested to bring a laptop with them on the second day of the event, which will include an interactive workshop.

Simultaneous translation in English and Italian is provided.
